Michael Shilale, AIA, LEED elected to Vice-President of Government Affairs for AIA New York State

| New City - Michael Shilale has been making a difference for communities throughout his twenty years as an architect. His newest challenge is to serve as Vice-President for Government Advocacy for the State Board of the American Institute of Architects. "Serving over six thousand architects and our communities is a great opportunity and I am proud to represent our profession." says Shilale.
Shilale goes on to point out that "AIA is the voice of our profession. We need to make that voice heard in order to make a difference for our members and our communities. Our Advocacy efforts have been improving in recent years and I hope to build upon our recent successes." This year a new law gives New York City the ability to refuse submissions from architects and engineers without State Education Department review. It has been said to be the most significant challenge to design professionals in the last thirty years. AIANYS is working hard on this and other legislative issues. Along with his position at the AIA, Shilale is also involved with various area organizations including serving as Past-President of the Board of Directors of the Rockland Housing Action Coalition, Inc., and as a member of Art in Public Places Committee for Rockland County (former Chairman) and the Long Island University Board of Overseers.
