New City NY - Michael Shilale AIA, LEED, founding partner of Michael Shilale Architects, LLP (MSA) - a thriving New City architectural engineering firm – has been selected by The New York State Society of Professional Engineers’ (NYSSPE) Nominating Committee, as the recipient of their 2011 NYSSPE Citizen of the Year Award.
“I am honored and humbled to be selected as the 'Citizen of the Year' by the New York State Society of Professional Engineers. My favorite architect, Santiago Calatrava, is both an architect and an engineer, so I’ve pursued projects (and engineering partners) that work with an eye on both. That’s because our economic and environmental challenges require both great architecture and great engineering,” says Michael Shilale, a frequent keynote speaker at various engineering, design and planning societies.
Joseph Caruso, a Professional Engineer with Maser Consulting P.A. – a full service consulting engineering firm with over 250 employees, headquartered in Red Bank, NJ – is responsible for nominating Mr. Shilale. Caruso has worked with Shilale on a number of projects for many years. He has seen first-hand Shilale’s “Green Building Technology” expertise grow. “Michael is committed to protecting and preserving the environment with his design work. As VP of the Rockland County Chapter of NYSSPE, I was proud to nominate him as ‘Citizen of the Year’ - and gratified that he was recognized.”
Shilale will receive his award at the Installation and Awards Banquet the evening of June 10, at the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa in Fairport, NY.
With a focus on best practices and LEED-accredited design, Shilale’s firm is responsible for hundreds of innovative buildings in NY, NJ and in FL. Notable green projects include United Water’s first water desalination plant on the Hudson River, the award winning Kathleen Lukens Living Center for Camp Venture in Sparkill, and the Tendler Center in New Hempstead for Jawonio.
MSA regularly conducts green tours of their own headquarters, where they’ve “walked the green walk’ via building & systems updates in energy and water, as well as their indoor environment; effectively reducing their total energy use by 42%, using 60% less potable water, with a waste reduction of 78%, and avoiding 4 tons of CO2 production.
