Rockland Boces gains 5000 square feet in one day

West Nyack  NY -  Today 5 modular units were lifted off their wheels and placed on the site of the Jesse Kaplan School.  These portable building components were manufactured in Pennsylvania and transported to Rockland BOCES last week.  The units are in good condition but still need some on-site work to be completed before they can be utilized.

The project came from a study Michael Shilale Architects (MSA) performed several years ago looking at space utilization and how the existing school can be expanded.  The first phase of the program, a four-classroom addition is now near completion.  A new type of modular construction, called ‘floorless’, is being pursued which will allow a slab on grade building. This will be a more durable, long-lasting solution. The modular construction method was pursued for financing purposes, since this allows the buildings to be leased, a much more efficient way for any BOCES to finance construction projects.  The added benefit is the speed at which the construction takes place and the minimum of on site construction time and disturbance.
