Teaching Family Model Residence

On a sloping site with spectacular views on the edge of the Village of Liberty lies the Teaching Family Model Residence. Three thousand square feet of living space is provided with almost as much storage and garage space on a lower level.

We believe this residence will serve as a model for Hospice Care throughout the agency and the region to educate, illuminate and inspire the community on Hospice. Designed to meet the specific needs of residents with Alzheimer’s, this project’s goals were to assure safety and security for residents, support functional abilities, assist in wayfinding, prompt memory, support independence and facilitate social interactions while maintaining privacy. Michael Shilale created a building that features eight single bedrooms each with two windows, four bathrooms, and large window filled common spaces including two lounges, a dining room and recreational day room.

The design creates a building that not only functions well, but also imbues in the architecture a sense of the significance of what happens here.
