Michael Shilale Architects, LLP (MSA) was pleased to offer its interns a $2,000 scholarship, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. We are pleased to announce that Sean Powell, Danny Escandon, and Carlos Gutierrez have been selected as the scholarship recipients. Their essays highlighted their valuable experiences at MSA, their educational aspirations, and their plans for utilizing the scholarship funds. This initiative recognizes and supports their exceptional contributions and growth within the firm.

Meet Sean Powell
"Architecture has captivated me since childhood, and working at MSA has deepened my understanding of its complexities. The hands-on experience with AutoCAD, navigating building codes, and managing extensive paperwork has been invaluable. Leading a Pre-bid walkthrough remains my proudest accomplishment. I’m excited to build on this foundation and advance my education as I continue my journey in architecture."
Sean plans to use his scholarship to take prerequisite classes for a bachelor's degree in architecture at Rockland Community College, with a focus on calculus. After completing these courses, he is considering transferring to SUNY Buffalo, Clemson University, or Syracuse University to continue his studies.

Meet Danny Escandon
“Since I was young, I’ve always been captivated by architecture, inspired by how ideas and thoughts can be transformed into physical structures that people can use and enjoy. This passion to create meaningful spaces led me to pursue a career in architecture. Moving from Ecuador to pursue this dream in the U.S. has been both challenging and rewarding. Thankfully, an opportunity for me appeared at MSA, where I was provided with valuable practical skills and a deeper understanding of the profession...”
Danny is currently pursuing his master's degree in architecture at the University at Buffalo. He plans to use the scholarship to relieve the financial burden of tuition, allowing him to focus more on his studies and growth as an architect.

Meet Carlos Gutierrez
“Although I’m studying to become a civil engineer, working at MSA has helped me learn some of the basics of architecture. I view architecture and engineering as two sides of the same coin, and this experience has shown me the behind-the-scenes process of creating a building. Getting my bachelor's from Manhattan College has been a goal of mine since high school, and I want to make those who believe in me proud by becoming an engineer.”
Carlos plans to use his scholarship towards tuition at Manhattan College, where he will be studying engineering. He hopes to improve his family's life and ultimately aims to positively impact the lives of others through the projects he will work on in the future.
