MSA’s expertise in both school construction and modular techniques were critical to their selection.
For the second phase of Michael Shilale Architects, LLP (MSA)’s work on YPS School 30, the project will focus on a modular addition. The modular building method suggested will deliver a faster, lower cost solution to the Yonkers Public Schools. MSA’s expertise in both school construction and modular techniques were critical to their selection. An outdoor amphitheater is proposed to enhance the educational program and ease the transition from the lower to upper levels. We have also suggested a ‘flying carpet’ canopy that can bring some color and whimsy to the main entry and serve as a visual que to improve wayfinding and give the non-descript entrance more prominence. Included in Phase II are: a six million dollar six-classroom addition plus 8 bathrooms, bathroom renovations and a new science room. Additionally, the input of a 3 stop elevator and elevator mechanical room. The project’s addition and elevator will allow for greater ease of access for both teachers, students, families, and visitors. Our design will allow for greater convenience, especially for those whom an elevator is needed, and a higher learning environment.
